Plastic components are widely used in various industries, from 3C electronics, home appliances to automobiles and medical devices. Various plastic parts are used for protection, enhancement, and construction of a large number of products. One of the most challenging decisions when designing plastic products and components is determining the right manufacturing method to have durable, high-quality products while minimizing costs and speeding up efficiency. There are 6 types of plastic molding that are considered to be the most effective and popular. The 6 types are thermoforming, injection molding, extrusion molding, compression molding, blow molding, and rotational molding.

Sanken Provides Plastic Molding Processing Services

Here, we will describe two types of plastic molding processes that we are familiar with and excel in: thermoforming and injection molding. This will help you decide which plastic molding method is more suitable for you and better showcase our professional plastic molding processing services.

Plastic Thermoforming

Plastic thermoforming involves heating a large block of plastic sheeting to make it soft and elastic, then stretching it over a custom-made mold. Vacuum pressure or compressed air is used to tightly press the hot-melted plastic onto the mold, thereby forming the desired shape.

Advantages of thermoforming:

The cost of tooling is lower

Fast batch production with short delivery times

It is suitable for the production of large components such as car dashboards, interior door panels

      Highly customizable

Sanken owns large hot press molding machine with a capacity of 400 tons, capable of processing hot molded products up to 1.2m * 2.5m.

Plastic Injection Molding

Injection molding is a plastic molding method that allows for high-volume production and has reliable, high-quality properties that make it one of the most common processes for the production of plastic parts. Injection molding involves melting a thermoplastic into a liquid and then injecting it into a double-sided mold using a high-pressure syringe. The plastic is coated and fills the mold to form the desired shape, then cools and ejects for finishing.

Advantages of Injection Molding:

Flexibility: Injection molding can produce various plastic components, including complex and high-precision parts

Efficiency: Once the mold is determined, the injection molding machine can produce in bulk

Consistency: The injection molding process is strictly controlled, and multiple plastic parts can be produced in batches with high quality consistency

Cost-effectiveness: Once the mold is built, the cost of producing each component is fixed and relatively low

Quality consistency: The injection molding process enables high-quality and reproducible production
